A knitting circle for beginners who are ready to tackle their first scarf!

In session 1, we'll cover how to measure your knitting gauge, how to read a knitting pattern, how to cast on, and the basic knit/purl stitches. You'll make a good start on the scarf and then have a week to practice at home.

When you come back for session 2, bring your WIP and any questions that came up during practice. We'll celebrate our progress and go over how to bind off or finish your project.

Audience:  teens and adults

Skill level: Beginner (or returning to knitting from a long hiatus)

Supplies we'll provide: A printed copy of the pattern (Semi-Charmed Scarf by Elizabeth Smith) plus kind, patient instruction.

Supplies to bring with you:

  1. 270 yards bulky weight yarn in the color(s) of your choice, rolled into balls before class. Need help? Go see our pal Lisa at the Knitting Nook!
  2. One pair of size 10.5 needles (24 inch circular)
  3. Your curiosity and willingness to experiment
  4. A face mask

Safety Precautions:

  • Class size is very limited due to social distancing requirements.
  • Masks are required to be worn over your nose and mouth for the duration of the class.
  • If you are not feeling well or if anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID in the past week, please stay home.

When you sign up for this class, you're agreeing to abide by our safety precautions as well as our registration policy. Please contact us before registering if you have any questions.

Instructor:

Kristina's philosophy of knitting is that it's all about the process, and therein lies the beauty. Despite being raised by an Irish mother and grandmother who knit all the time, she didn't catch the knitting bug until adulthood, when some midnight blue mohair yarn so bewitched her that she picked up some needles and made a sweater. She's excited to share the joy of knitting with you all!
