Intro to sashiko stitching

Come learn the history and basics of "one-stitch," or Hitomezashi, sashiko stitching. This geometric style of stitching is a centuries-old Japanese traditional method for repairing and reinforcing garments. Many people find this technique quite meditative and the results are beautiful.

Absolute beginners will leave with at least one sashiko sampler suitable for making coasters or patching clothing. Experienced hand stitchers will probably have time to make more. Everyone will go home with ideas for your next project!

MaryBeth is a lifelong crafter who specializes in garment-sewing and handstitching, and she also dabbles in many fiber arts. She has a Masters of Teaching and Learning from USM and thinks that building connections with other humans, especially crafty humans, is one of the best parts of being a teacher.
