Izzy Van den Heuvel is a Portland artist who discovered bookbinding by accident and it was love at first press. Using found materials (sheet music, seed catalogs, fabric scraps) and offcut paper from a book press, she makes one of a kind books for your lists, dreams, and more.
From the maker:
"I started making journals while working at a book press. In the process of producing the books there were so many materials that couldn't be used at the press, which I was able to take home and start experimenting with in my own book binding process. As I continued making journals I began working with common materials that could be repurposed for binding, such as old clothes, half used old school notebooks, tissue paper from packaging. I love being able to give these materials a new life, as well as the process of binding. Repurposing materials always adds a little extra challenge, while the process of binding is relatively formulaic. For me, it's the perfect balance, an adventure, but with a roadmap."
