Try your hand at knitting in a supportive, encouraging two-part workshop this winter!

Part one: start a scarf

Saturday, January 29th
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Choose from one of four beginner patterns and learn the skills to get started with your scarf: casting on, knitting, purling, and how to continue with the next ball of yarn. You'll go home with the skills to keep on trucking with your project.

Part two: finish your scarf

Saturday, February 12th
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Beginner knitters will learn how to bind off (remove your scarf from the knitting needles) and weave in loose ends. As time allows, you might even get started on your next project...

Audience: tweens, teens, and adults

Skill level: Beginner

Supplies to bring with you:

  1. Two skeins of medium weight yarn (worsted/Aran)*
  2. A pair of size 8 needles*
  3. Your curiosity and willingness to experiment
  4. A face mask

* We have a few skeins of Swan's Island all-American worsted kicking around but for needles and a much fuller selection of yarns, we recommend the Knitting Nook in South Portland!

Safety Precautions:

  • Class size is very limited due to social distancing requirements.
  • Masks are required to be worn over your nose and mouth for the duration of the class.
  • Participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • If you are not feeling well for any reason, please stay home.

When you sign up for this class, you're agreeing to abide by our safety precautions as well as our registration policy. Please contact us before registering if you have any questions.

Instructor:

Adrienne is a physical therapist and an Associate Clinical Professor at UNE who loves the colors, textures, and patterns of working with fiber. She started knitting in graduate school to have something meditative to help with the transitions between work, school, commute, and homework. Although she occasionally knits more complex patterns, she loves the rhythm of knitting simple things!
